Violin & Piano Lessons

Lessons overview: Lessons are offered in two different locations, one studio is located in Arlington, WA 98223 and the other music studio is located in my home in Bothell, WA 98021. Lessons in Bothell are offered on Mon, Tues, Wed, and Sat. Arlington lessons are on Thursday and Friday.

Lessons are once a week, four times a month. Please view 'Studio Policies' section for details.

There are two recitals a year, one in early June and a Christmas themed recital in December. Playing in front of people regularly is a great motivator to practice, as well as developing a comfort with performing in public. I try to find as many opportunities for my students to perform as they desire. As an active member of the Washington State Music Teachers Association, competitions and adjudications are available for those students who desire. Participation in any activities is optional.

I teach a variety of different types of students: young students, adults, ADD, autistic, ESL... Anyone is welcome to come and learn!

Violin, fiddle, and viola lessons: Since I am a classical trained violinist, I mostly teach classical violin lessons. However, I do enjoy working with fiddle students as well. Different fiddle styles I teach are Irish, Scottish, Celtic and American fiddle: bluegrass, oldtime, and Cajon fiddling. I also offer beginning viola lessons.
Althought at one time I was a certified Suzuki Method instructor, I also feel note reading skills and music theory are very important. Therefore, my teaching style is modified Suzuki Method along with a variety of song books to improve sight reading and note reading, as well as ear training and solid technical skill.
For violin students, I teach children as young as four years old.
About 1/3 of my violin students are adults who play recreationally (just for the fun of it!)

Piano lessons: For most piano students I teach from the Alfred Basic Piano Library. This method emphasizes a development of music vocabulary and note reading abilities. I am comfortable with all styles of music and enjoy accommodating a students desired approach. The piano is such a great instruments because of the great variety of music a student can learn: classical, modern, jazz, rags, blues, hymns, pop songs, country, chord approach, and more.
I accept piano students as young as three years old.
